I need help with my future career?

I am currently still in high school and right now, I'm not sure of my exact GPA but i know it's a bit higher than a 4.0. I want to become a doctor more than anything. I'm not going to specialize, I just want to be a general doctor, although at one point, I wanted to become a pediatrician. My friends and sister keep telling me that med school is so hard to get into and how in some schools, only 13 people world wide get excepted into the school. I realize that med school is a very competitive thing to get into. Are there any tips people can give me or other careers I might be interested in?
