What home recording equipment should I get?

I am a musician with little to no knowledge of recording and mixing music. So I’m having trouble finding a recording method that’s as straightforward as I’d like it to be. I don’t want to make bad recordings, but I don’t need them to be the near studio quality that I know can be achieved through home recording. I just want something to get my ideas down so that I, and perhaps others, can gauge my abilities so that I can grow musically. I plan on recording vocals, electric, acoustic, and bass guitars, electronic drums and other percussion instruments, keyboards and harmonica. Any ideas in regards to the type of equipment I could get would be greatly appreciated.
